ComfTech is proud to be part of HPC4Wearables, an ambitious research project developed in collaboration with Gter, Technova, the University of Genoa (DIBRIS), founded by Centro Nazionale ICSC in the area of innovation funds (Cascade Grants).
The initiative aims to redefine how we understand performance and fatigue in cycling groups, using the synergy of high-precision GNSS positioning and smart textiles.
A New Approach to Monitoring Group Dynamics
At the core of the project is an innovative GNSS prototype positioned under the saddle of each bike with centimeter-level accuracy.

Through advanced sensors, it can track the exact position of each cyclist, distinguish between group formations, and map relative movements, metrics that are essential to understanding training dynamics.
In parallel, cyclists wear the Howdy Senior smart vest, which continuously monitors heart rate, HRV, respiration, ECG, and stress levels. By combining positional and physiological data, researchers can extract predictive insights on training load, group behavior, and fatigue, providing coaches and athletes with concrete, actionable data.

From the Lab to the Dolomites

To test the system in real-world conditions, cyclists Alessandro and Alberto recently took the technology to the Dolomites. Over the course of a challenging ride, they faced six passes, Marmolada, Sella, Gardena, Valparola, Falzarego, and Giau, all while collecting live GNSS and physiological data.

This demanding test not only confirmed the robustness of the devices but also generated valuable datasets for analyzing both solo efforts and group dynamics. These insights will contribute to refining personalized, data-driven training strategies and advancing the development of new smart textile designs tailored for endurance sports.
Towards the Future of Sports Performance
HPC4Wearables marks an important step toward a new frontier in sports science: the integration of wearable technology, satellite precision, and advanced data analytics. By transforming every movement and heartbeat into useful metrics, the project opens the door to more effective training, better injury prevention, and enhanced team performance.
This initiative reflects ComfTech’s broader mission: to bring scientific innovation and smart textiles into the daily lives of athletes, professionals, and individuals, building human-centered technologies that truly make a difference.
